Today Jimi Hendrix would have turned eighty: 5 curiosities about the best guitarist of all time

On November 27, 1942 in Seattle was born Jimi Hendrix, one of the greatest songwriters of all time, as well as being an innovator in the use of the electric guitar.

Like so many other artists, he died too early, when he was only 27 years old, suffocated by a sudden conate of vomit caused by a cocktail of alcohol and tranquilizers.

Two memorable performances are remembered in Hendrix : the first at the Monterey festival in 1967, the second at the end of the Woodstock festival in 1969.

At the Monterey International Pop Festival, having lost a bet with Pete Townshend of the Who, after playing the guitar with his teeth and on his back, Hendrix set fire to his instrument: the remains of that guitar have been recovered and are on display at the SeattleExperience Music Project.

In 2003, the music magazine Rolling Stone included Hendrix in first place in the ranking of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time: even in the 2011 update Jimi maintained the top of the ranking.

Despite being one of the best musicians of all time, Jimi was unable to read sheet music. However, many believe that this weakness has turned into a strength for Hendrix, who has been able to exploit this lack to improve his technique.

Hendrix was inspired by his dreams to write songs
It was Jimi who admitted that his songs were often born from what he dreamed of at night. In particular, Hendrix revealed in an interview that he wrote First Look and Purple Haze after dreaming of walking underwater.

After being arrested, Hendrix joined the army.
In 1961, Jimi was arrested by Seattle police for driving a stolen car. He chose the latter option and was drafted on May 31, 1961 and subsequently sent to Fort Ord , California, for eight weeks of training.
