All musicians who have had a tragic destiny

On the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Michael Hutchence degli INXS, which took place on November 22, 1997, we retrace the history of the musicians who at some point chose to take their own lives.

When success and money are not enough, depression, dissatisfaction or many other obscure reasons have led to suicide famous musicians, who have made the history of world music.

In addition to the same Hutchence, they decided to end their own lives, among others, Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) or Chester Bennington (Linkin Park).

On the morning of November 22, 1997, the INXSMichael Hutchence singer was found dead in room 524 of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Double Bay in Sydney. The body had a tight neck in a belt that was tied to the automatic closing placed at the top of the bedroom door.

Kurt Cobain
The leader of the Nirvana Kurt Cobain was found dead on the morning of April 8, 1994 inside his home on Lake Washington. According to the investigation, Cobain took his own life with a rifle shot. Next to his body was found a farewell letter to his family and audience.

Chester Bennington
The Linkin Park Chester Bennington singer took his own life at his home in Palos Verdes (California, United States) on July 21, 2016. For years Bennington had had problems with alcohol and drug abuse and had already expressed the intention to take his own life in the past. He left six children from two different marriages.

Chris Cornell
The leader of bands such as Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave Chris Cornell died in a hotel room on the night of May 17, 2017, after a concert of Soundgarden in Detroit. According to subsequent investigations, Cornell took his own life. In February 2018 he released a posthumous single, You never knew my mind, contained in the album Johnny Cash: Forever Words.

Ian Curtis
The singer-songwriter of Joy Division Ian Curtis took his own life at the age of 23, on May 18, 1980. Curtis hanged himself in the kitchen of his home in Macclesfield. According to his official biographer, before he died Curtis watched the movie The Ballad of Stroszek by Herzog and listened to the album The Idiot by Iggy Pop.

Keith Emerson
The musician Keith Emerson, who played in bands such as The Nice and Emerson, Lake & Palmer died on the night between 10 and 11 March 2016, at his home in Los Angeles. At the age of 71 Emerson decided to take his own life due to depression resulting from an illness in his right hand that prevented him from playing the keyboard properly.
