Unfortunately, there is no good news about the state of health of British singer-songwriter and drummer Phil Collins, a former member of the historic band Genesis.
In fact, Phil Collins has not performed for almost a year: his last concert was on 26 March 2022 and even on that occasion, the singer-songwriter appeared to be in serious difficulty, barely able to walk without the support of a cane.
The latest news about his condition is not positive, however: Mike Rutherford of Genesis made this known. Here are his words.
Unfortunately, there is no good news about the state of health of singer-songwriter and historic drummer Phil Collins, former member of Genesis. Phil Collins has in fact been retired for almost a year: in his last public appearances, the singer-songwriter appeared to be in serious difficulty, barely able to walk without the support of a cane. The latest news about his condition is not good: Mike Rutherford of Genesis made this known. Here is what he said.
Mike Rutherford, the historic bass player of Genesis, has revealed to BBC Breakfast that his former bandmate has now restricted his movements to a minimum due to the illness that afflicts him. Already in recent public appearances, the singer-songwriter had appeared very weak and thin, barely able to stand.
A year ago, Phil performed for the last time, in a farewell concert held at the O2 Arena in London: on that occasion, the musician appeared on stage walking with the aid of a cane and then remaining seated for almost the entire time. At the end of the performance, Collins revealed that the pain in his back would force him to retire from the stage.
The historic Genesis drummer suffered a spinal cord injury in 2007, as a result of which he suffered damage to the vertebrae in the upper neck and permanent nerve damage: the difficult condition forced him to undergo an initial operation in 2009. The operation forced Phil to no longer be able to play the drums, due to the loss of feeling in his hands. In 2015 Collins had another operation on a vertebra and in 2017 he was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Mike Rutherford was keen to emphasise, however, that his friend and colleague has no intention of giving up: Phil is enjoying all his time at home with his family and even on the last farewell tour, according to Rutherford, Collins was in high spirits.
