Singers who won Oscars for best actor
In the history of music, there are many singers who have also tried their hand at acting, including in Hollywood major productions.
Many musicians have also been nominated for best actor (lead and supporting), such as Lady Gaga or Mary J. Blige, but few have then managed to win the coveted statuette for their acting skills by entering this special ranking.
Here are some singers who have won the Oscar for best actor, lead and supporting.
Singers who won Oscars for best actor
Throughout the history of music, there have been many singers who have tried their hand at acting, including in Hollywood major productions . Many musicians have been nominated for an Oscar for best actor (lead and supporting), such as Lady Gaga or Mary J. Blige, but few have then managed to win the coveted statuette for their acting talents. Here are some singers who have won the Oscar for best actor.
Frank Sinatra
During his career, the great Frank Sinatra won three Oscars: the honorary Oscar in 1946, the Humanitarian Award Oscar Jean Hersholt in 1971 and also the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1954 for his performance in the film From Here to Eternity.
Barbra Streisand
Over the years, Barbra Streisand has won many awards, completing the famous EGOT, i.e. she has won the four major US entertainment awards: Emmy Award, Grammy Award, Oscar Award and Tony Award. In 1969, she received the Oscar for Best Actress for 'Funny Girl'. That year there were two winners in the Best Actress category: together with Barbra Streisand, Katharine Hepburn also won the statuette.
Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson also completed the EGOT, having won at least one Emmy, one Tony, one Grammy and, of course, one Oscar. In 2006, in fact, the singer distinguished herself in the film "Dreamgirls", thanks to which she managed to win the coveted statuette for best supporting actress.
Cher
Countless awards have been won by Cher over the course of her extraordinary and versatile career that has enabled her to become one of pop culture's most important icons. Cher has sold more than 100 million records and her awards include the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, which she won in 1988 for her role as Loretta Castorini in the film Moonstruck.
Jared Leto
The Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman divides his career equally between music and acting, enjoying great success in both spheres. In 2014, Jared Leto won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his performance in the film "Dallas Buyers Club", in which he shared the set with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.
Judy Garland
It is impossible to define Judy Garland only as a singer or only as an actress: Judy was a total and precocious artist, who owes much of her success to the 1939 musical 'The Wizard of Oz', which, although it gave her fame, also negatively affected the future film and music star in terms of physical health. Thanks to 'The Wizard of Oz', Judy Garland launched the famous song 'Over the Rainbow', but also won the youth Oscar for her acting skills: this Oscar was awarded to young performers who had not yet turned eighteen.
Liza Minnelli
Just as her mom Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli throughout her time in the entertainment industry has also distinguished herself as a total artist, from music to acting to dancing. At the height of her career (including music), in 1973 Liza won an Oscar for best actress after starring in "Cabaret" alongside Michael York.
Will Smith
For years now, Will Smith's career has focused almost exclusively on acting, but we cannot fail to include him in the category of singers who have won the Oscar for Best Actor, considering that his career in the world of entertainment began with music and particularly rap, in the DJ duo Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. Impossible to forget his Oscar win in the Best Actor category thanks to his performance in the film 'King Richard'.
Rankings
21/09/2023
The well-known US magazine Rolling Stone in 2021 has updated the list of the 500 most beautiful songs of all time.
The ranking was first published on December 11, 2003 and was compiled by a jury chosen by the editorial staff, composed of 172 musicians, music critics and experts in the recording industry. Subsequently, the ranking was changed twice: the first in 2010, the second in 2021, when 254 songs that were previously not present were added.
Obviously, there is nothing more subjective than music: these songs are considered the best according to the criteria defined by Rolling Stonemagazine, but each of us has his own personal ranking of the best songs ever. Here, however, is the Top 20 of Rolling Stone.

In 2008, 'Rolling Stone' compiled a list of the 100 best singers of all time.
This ranking was compiled 15 years ago by 180 people, including several musicians (e.g. Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Justin Timberlake, George Michael, Keith Richards), journalists and music experts.
On 1 January 2023, however, 'Rolling Stone' published an update of the ranking that revolutionised the list, especially with regard to the Top Ten. As the well-known US magazine was keen to point out, this ranking does not only take into account technical and vocal abilities (it is not a list of the best voices of all time), but also the originality of the vocal timbre, the record catalogue, the writing ability and the musical legacy of the singers in question. Here are the top 20 positions.
